New Ways Of Preparing For Scat Test Amidst The Covid

Are you a student preparing for the SCAT exam amidst COVID? Or a concerned parent trying to find the best way for your child to prepare? Here’s a short guide on the new ways to prepare for SCAT during the pandemic.

What is SCAT?

SCAT or the School and College Ability Test is an above-grade-level test conducted online by the John Hopkins Centre for Talented Youth or JH-CTY for short. It is conducted at a predefined test center.

This test is used to compare a student’s Quantitative and Verbal reasoning skills to those of an average student several grades ahead of them. The SCAT is conducted all year round allowing you to write it when you desire. Source: JH-CTY

Why SCAT?

SCAT is a graded test that not only helps you ascertain your level of development in the areas of testing against your seniors but offers several certificates to students who perform exceptionally well. The highest-scoring students are invited to various events and ceremonies.

How to Prepare for SCAT?

Thousands of students write the SCAT every year. Over time, several methods have been developed to help students succeed at this test. However, a few methods have remained fundamental in all this.

What Are The Levels Of Scat?

The scores can vary from 401- 514 depending on the level chosen by the student.

There are three fundamental levels of the SCAT, namely:

  • Elementary level:

Verbal grades between 401 and 471, Quantitative grades between 412 and 475

  • Intermediate level:

Verbal grades between 405 and 482, Quantitative grades between 419 and 506

  • Advanced level:

Verbal grades between 410 and 494, Quantitative grades between 424 and 514

These are determined by the number of questions out of 50.

Owing to the current situation we face due to the virus outbreak most direct methods of preparing for these exams have been cut off. So here is a list of the current ways to prepare for the SCAT:

  1. Online Study

Studying through the internet is the simplest and most effective way to ace the SCAT. There are two ways you could prepare online, namely, through direct person-to-person conferences where each of your individual doubts can be cleared as well as SCAT practice tests available online. The tests available and quality of teaching vary from site to site but are quite an effective method of preparing for the SCAT.

The coaching can prepare you from the very basics to the more advanced concepts on the test. With the right instructors, you can go from a 70 percentile all the way up to a 95.

Using the right practice books and tests and being consistent with your practice can carry you the rest of the way through. There is no substitute for hard work after all.

      2.  Independent Study

Some test givers choose to study by themselves, although this is an effective method, not all students can collect the skills required to ace this test.

Successfully entering the late 400’s on a test with no help whatsoever can be a very difficult task.

Choosing to study by yourself would still allow you to buy reference material and SCAT practice tests. Doing this will give you the edge you need as long as you are hard-working and consistent.

      3.  Offline Coaching

Offline classes have remained a long time standard for test preparation. There are quite a few centers to help you prepare in most major cities. However, these are still quite few in number and require most individuals to commute long distances. All this as well as the high prices they demand don’t help with the reducing numbers.

During the current pandemic, the situation has worsened to an extent where keeping students in a confined space can leave them more vulnerable to the disease. This is why standard offline classes for the SCAT is not advisable.

Keeping in mind these three basic methods it is always important to remember that in the end whichever method you choose, the only way to truly ace the exam would be to work hard, be dedicated and consistent with your efforts, and with time you might be able to achieve your dream of a perfect score.

Dream big and work hard.
