8The Temple Endowment After a Mormon temple initiate gets his new name and packet of robes, he goes through the actual temple endowment. This is a little initiatic drama which purports to cover the Genesis account of creation: the temptation and fall of Man. In reality, it is a fractured account, laced with extra-biblical doctrines. We saw it for the first time in Salt Lake City performed live, like a play. In most temples, movies now replace the live acting except for an "officiator" who demonstrates various rituals. |
