The earthsones encircle the foundation of the temple. As with every element in the temple, the placement of the stones has not been done randomly. Brigham Young said the design of the temple was given to him by God. Every detail was subject to Young's personal scrutiny. The Temple, he said, and the information one received in it would, "enable you to walk back to the presence of the Father, passing angels who stand as sentinals, [you] being enabled to give them the key words, the sign and tokens."
