Polygamists in Canada are part of U. S. Investigation (The Oragonian, Sept. 30, 2000) A polygamous sect in Lister, British Columbia, is part of a probe into the arranged marriages of underage U.S. girl. Ex-members of the sect, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a child advocacy group have asked authorities to investigate the movement of girls between Arizona, Utah, and British Columbia. The marriages are increasing because the church leader says the end of the world is near.
