Very common, but naive and unbiblical sentiment.
When someone is hostage to doctrines of demons, it is almost always necessary to get them to see that before they can hear the Gospel. That is why Jesus called the Pharisees devils, serpents, graves covered over, etc. You need to read the Bible to understand that most preaching has always been against sin, and then--and only then-- the announcement of the way of rescue from the sin.
