message: I just finished reading your book "Beyond Mormonism" online. My son became a Mormon and his experiences seem to parallel yours, except in a shorter time frame. When I was in Hawaii last August he told me that he no longer believed what the Mormon church teaches, but he was still attending the Mormon church "because he thought that particular church was Christian". According to his wife he stopped that practice within the past two weeks. I pray that he will fill the void with a good Bible-teaching church. Like you, I have had to let God have His way in my son's life and know Whom I believe and know that He is able...!! Your book had me in tears because I know what you went through while your wife was still a Mormon.
I am writing this to you for several reasons. I have supported Concerned Christians in Mesa, AZ for a number of years starting before (by God's grace) my son became involved with Mormonism. Also, I was surprised to see that you are a pastor in a Foursquare Church. I attended Foursquare churches for 25 years. First in Eugene, Oregon when Roy Hicks, Jr. was the pastor there, and then in Everett, Washington when Tom Ferguson was the pastor there (and during part of Randy Remington's pastorate at New Life Center). The Foursquare Church has played a huge role in my life and in getting me to where I am now. I have looked for a book that would speak to the hearts and minds of people in Christian churches about why Mormons are not Christians, and do it in a way that is clear, concise, and an easy read. I have run into too many people who call themselves Christians who have disagreed with me when I say that Mormons are not Christians. I know they do it out of lack of knowledge. Your book can help fill that void, and to have it available online is a decided advantage. In my search I bought many books, and have spent many hours, trying to learn what Mormons teach. For those who do not have the time or sufficient interest in the subject to do the research, I found that your book is perfect. Furthermore, it taught me the approach the Mormon missionaries use in their prosleytising, and has given me tools to use if/when they come to my door. Elly |
Elly,
Thanks for your nice letter. I knew Roy and I know Tom. I'm so glad my book was helpful to you and I pray that you will be able to use it to touch others. If you send me your postal mailing address, I will send you an information pack, a couple of tracts, and a couple of pamphlets. Jim Spencer |
